Emmett Hanger

Serving in the Senate since 1996, Senator Emmett Hanger represents Virginia’s 24th State Senate District. Prior to that he served in the House of Delegates and as Commissioner of Revenue for Augusta County. Emmett joined the Virginia Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus in 2004 and currently serves as the Caucus Co-Chair.

Representing a rural district in Virginia, Emmett understands his constituents enjoy hunting, fishing, and outdoor recreation as a way of life, and he has long been a champion of legislation that supports and promotes these proud Virginia traditions. Emmett’s continuous fight to protect the rights of Virginia hunters earns him an “A+” rating from the National Rifle Association. He also is endorsed by the Virginia Hunting Dog Alliance for his work defending hunting dogs and their owners from detrimental legislation introduced in the General Assembly.

Emmett states, “Our area’s natural beauty and wildlife attract visitors from around the world. That is why I am proud to be a Co-Chair of the Virginia Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus and to act as a voice for sportsmen and women in the legislature.” Virginia is currently home to over one million hunters and anglers, who spend an estimated $2.4 billion on annual basis. As a community, sportsmen and women have become a vital part of the state’s economy, while also helping to manage the fish and game populations statewide.
