Why It Matters: The addition of The Westervelt Company to the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation’s (CSF) Forestry Advisory Council further aligns a forest industry leader in wildlife management with other organizations dedicated to promoting sportsmen’s access and heritage, wildlife conservation, and sustainable forest management to support CSF’s advocacy for strong forest policies that benefit the forest industry and the hunting-conservation community alike.
Highlights:
- In December 2025, during a CSF Forestry Advisory Council meeting held at the National Assembly of Sportsmen’s Caucuses 22nd Annual Sportsman-Legislator Summit, the CSF Forestry Advisory Council voted to approve The Westervelt Company’s membership in the CSF Forestry Advisory Council.
- The Westervelt Company joins the Boone and Crockett Club, Federal Forest Resource Coalition, Forest Landowners Association, National Alliance of Forest Owners, National Association of State Foresters, National Wild Turkey Federation, and Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation on the CSF Forestry Advisory Council.
“Responsible use of natural resources and a strong sporting tradition are long-standing core values of The Westervelt Company. Partnering with CSF has been a great experience as we seek to conserve forests and the wildlife habitat and sporting values that they provide. Our participation in the Forestry Advisory Council is an excellent opportunity to collaborate on meaningful policy outcomes that seek to maintain forest health and productivity, as well as the hunting and fishing traditions that forests support,” said Cade Warner, President and CEO of The Westervelt Company.
CSF established the Forestry Advisory Council in January 2025 to bring together the forest industry and the hunting-conservation community to work collaboratively to provide guidance to CSF on advancing policies that promote active forest management on private and public lands. The CSF Forestry Advisory Council met regularly throughout 2025 to discuss issues impacting the forest industry, wildlife habitat, and hunting access that informed CSF’s engagement on state and federal policy.
The Westervelt Company is a 140-year-old company in its fourth generation of family ownership. As a leader in sustainable forestry and land stewardship, The Westervelt Company owns and manages 600,000 acres of commercial timberland, two lumber manufacturing facilities, and an ecological restoration and mitigation business, as well as an agriculture/recreation business in New Zealand. The Westervelt Company was a wildlife conservation pioneer in the forest industry, and The Westervelt Company continues that tradition today through science-driven habitat management and premium hunting leases and hunting opportunities offered through Westervelt Wildlife Services.
The Westervelt Company is a CSF Mission Partner and is represented on CSF’s Board of Directors via their immediate former President and CEO, Brian Luoma, who remains affiliated with the company in an advisory role. Last year, The Westervelt Company partnered with CSF to host a forestry and wildlife habitat educational tour and hunting event at the historic Westervelt Lodge along the Tombigbee River in Aliceville, AL, and a reception at The University Club in Tuscaloosa, AL, that celebrated CSF’s leadership in providing a voice for hunters and anglers at the state and federal levels.
CSF is grateful for its partnership with The Westervelt Company and looks forward to continuing to work with The Westervelt Company through the enhanced relationship with them now joining CSF’s Forestry Advisory Council. The Westervelt Company’s Vice President of Sustainability and Government Relations, Jonathan Lowery, will represent The Westervelt Company on the CSF Forestry Advisory Council.
