Jim Tomes

State Senator Jim Tomes was first elected to the Indian State Senate in 2010, and currently serves the state’s 49th District and as the Assistant Majority Caucus Chair in the current legislative session. Shortly after being elected to office, Sen. Tomes joined the Indian Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus to work with colleagues from both sides of the aisle to protect and advance hunting, angling, recreational shooting and trapping at the state capitol in Indianapolis.

During his tenure, Sen. Tomes has been a staunch advocate on behalf of pro-sportsmen legislation and Second Amendment rights. In 2014, working closely with fellow Caucus member Representative Sean Eberhart, he championed SJR 9, proposing amending the Indiana State Constitution to include language that ensure the state’s residents the right to hunt, fish and harvest wildlife. This proposed amendment, which was passed by both chambers of the legislature and will now be placed on the ballot to be decided on by the voters of Indiana in November of 2016, would protect Indiana’s outdoor sporting heritage for future generations.

Indiana is home to over 867,000 hunters and anglers who serve as conservation leaders and economic drivers in the Hoosier State. Annually, sportsmen and women spend upwards of $924 million, supporting over 14,000 jobs across the state.
