On April 9, the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF) hosted a luncheon for state fish and wildlife agency directors at the Northeast Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (NEAFWA) 73rd Annual Northeast Fish & Wildlife Conference in Norfolk, Virginia.
At the luncheon, CSF Senior Director of Northeastern States Brent Miller presented information on recent programmatic updates to the National Assembly of Sportsmen’s Caucuses (NASC), the Governors Sportsmen’s Caucus, and the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus. The discussion also focused on key policy initiatives that are currently being undertaken by each program that impact northeast fish and wildlife agencies, as well as opportunities for enhanced engagement between the agencies and CSF in the years ahead. Additionally, the group discussed ways to capitalize on the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the “user-pays, public-benefits” American System of Conservation Funding, occurring this year, and the upcoming Annual NASC Sportsman-Legislator Summit.
“We were honored to have a more formal role on the agenda at this year’s NEAFWA Conference,” said Miller. “Working alongside state fish and wildlife agencies to advance sound conservation policies remains a mainstay of the NASC network, and we look forward to enhanced coordination in the years ahead.”
Studies conducted at both the state and federal level have found that the number of hunters and trappers have been on a generally declining trend over the past several decades.
