Recently, the Hunting and Shooting Conservation Council (HSSCC) submitted a letter to Interior Secretary David Bernhardt to assist in facilitating discussions between various stakeholders to resolve longstanding recreational shooting disputes.
The HSSCC develops and provides recommendations to the Secretaries of Agriculture and the Interior to promote and advance hunting and the shooting sports. Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF) President Jeff Crane serves as HSSCC Chairman.
In the letter, the HSSCC specifically requested a discussion between the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), recreational shooting stakeholders, and the HSSCC to resolve issues regarding recreational shooting as well as seek opportunities to advance recreational shooting access on BLM lands. Recommendations included:
CSF will continue to work with the HSSCC as well as the Departments of the Interior and Agriculture to increase recreational shooting opportunities on federally owned public lands.
Studies conducted at both the state and federal level have found that the number of hunters and trappers have been on a generally declining trend over the past several decades.
