On October 26, Representative Terry Baxter (IA) and Representative Jerry Costello Jr. (IL) were elected to the National Assembly of Sportsmen’s Caucuses Executive Council as Alternate Members. They join Representative Jeff Wardlaw (AR), who was recently elevated from an Alternate Member to a full member of the Executive Council, and Senator Mike Green (MI) in representing the Midwest region on the Council.
“I joined the Iowa Legislature in no small part because I care deeply about our natural resources and the interests of my sportsmen and women constituents,” said Rep. Baxter. “It is my honor to join this distinguished council as we work to advance hunting and angling around our country.”
Reps. Baxter, Costello, Wardlaw, and Sen. Green will sit on the 2018 Executive Council alongside EC President Sen. Bill Heath (GA), Vice-President Rep. Brian White (SC), Secretary Rep. Jeff Goley (NH) and EC Members Sen. Robin Webb (KY), Del. Wendell Beitzel (MD), Rep. Scott Bounds (MS), Rep. Patrick Brennan (VT), Rep. Bill Rehm (NM), Rep. Stephen Wood (ME), and Rep. Brad Witt (OR).
Elected by their sportsman-legislator colleagues to serve two-year terms, EC members provide advice on policy development; sportsmen’s community engagement; NASC program administration; and media outreach intended to highlight the role that hunting, angling, recreational shooting and trapping play in supporting conservation policies that also benefit our nation’s social and economic wellbeing.
“The storied American traditions of hunting, angling, trapping and recreational shooting are important to all of us,” said Rep. Costello. “I am very pleased to be elected to the Executive Council and pledge to work hard alongside my fellow council members to advance our outdoor heritage.”
Studies conducted at both the state and federal level have found that the number of hunters and trappers have been on a generally declining trend over the past several decades. To increase recruitment, retention, and reactivation (R3) of hunters and trappers, which initiative do you think would have the greatest impact?
