New Sportsmen’s Caucus Leadership Takes the Helm in North Carolina

Article Contact: John Culclasure,

Why It Matters:  As an avid sportsman, Representative Adams will help ensure hunters and anglers are represented well at the Statehouse. North Carolina’s outdoor sporting traditions are integral to the cultural and economic fabric of the Old North State, and Representative Adams will carry on the tradition of the Caucus being a leading voice for championing the interests of North Carolina’s sportsmen and women.

Highlights:

  • This month, Representative Jay Adams was selected as the new Co-Chair of the North Carolina Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus (Caucus).
  • Representative Adams takes the leadership reins from Representative Larry Yarborough who was a tremendous advocate for sportsmen and women in the North Carolina General Assembly for almost a decade.
  • Representative Adams will Co-Chair the bipartisan, bicameral Caucus alongside Senator Steve Jarvis and Representative Michael Wray.

Representative Adams steps into the Caucus leadership position with a wealth of conservation experience. The Representative is Chairman of the House Wildlife Resources Committee, the former President of the Catawba Valley Wildlife Club, and a regular attendee of the National Assembly of Sportsmen’s Caucuses Annual Sportsman-Legislator Summit.

Since his first day in office in 2015, Representative Adams has worked on numerous bills that have benefited North Carolina’s outdoor sporting community, including, but not limited to, the historic Outdoor Heritage Act which allowed Sunday hunting for the first time in the state’s modern history and established the Outdoor Heritage Advisory Council. Representative Adams also later co-sponsored the Outdoor Heritage Enhanced Act which expanded Sunday hunting opportunities to public land, and Representative Adams has been a strong voice for reforming coastal fisheries management, addressing chronic wasting disease, and supporting the public trust doctrine.

The Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF) is excited to work with Representative Adams in his new leadership position, and we would like to express our sincere gratitude to Representative Yarborough for his leadership on sportsmen’s issues over the years.
