Parliamentary Outdoor Caucus Hosts Day at the Range

On June 7, the Parliamentary Outdoor Caucus Association of Canada hosted its 5th Annual “Parliamentary Day at the Range” in Stittsville, Ontario.  More than 100 attendees included Members of Parliament, Senators and senior staff.

According to a Canadian Shooting Sports Association news release, this event was a great success. Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF) Board of Directors member Phil Morlock of Shimano American Corporation, was instrumental in organizing this event, and founding of the Caucus. “The all party Parliamentary Outdoor Caucus was created in 2006 based on the successful model of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus. Jeff Crane and the Congressional caucus leadership played an important role in explaining the benefits of a non-partisan approach to Members of Parliament and our Day at the Range attendance across political party lines is a great example of this.”

The Honorable Rona Ambrose, M.P. and the Honorable Kellie Leitch both made an appearance at the event to show their skills in and support for the shooting sports. Business members of the Canadian Sporting Arms and Ammunition Association provided firearms for the event.

CSF commends the Parliamentary Outdoor Caucus for recognizing the rich outdoor traditions of Canadian sportsmen and women within Parliament.

Studies conducted at both the state and federal level have found that the number of hunters and trappers have been on a generally declining trend over the past several decades. To increase recruitment, retention, and reactivation (R3) of hunters and trappers, which initiative do you think would have the greatest impact?
