Trump Administration Announces Regional Fishery Management Council Appointments

On June 28, Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross announced the 2017 Regional Fishery Management Council (RFMC) appointments. Supported by the recreational fishing and boating community, the appointments of Steve Heins of New York to the Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council; Chester Brewer of Florida to the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council; and Phil Dyskow of Florida, Dr. Bob Shipp of Alabama, and Dr. Greg Stunz of Texas to the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council, are supported by the recreational fishing and boating community.

“The new council appointments were great news for the angling community, and will allow for a more balanced approach to federal fisheries management by providing recreational anglers a better seat at the table,” said Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF) Senior Fisheries Program Director Chris Horton. “We look forward to working with the councils to find solutions for recreational anglers that continue our long-standing commitment to conservation, while also recognizing the significant economic and cultural benefits of providing the American public better access to their fishery resources.”

For more information about the appointees, see the recreational fishing coalition press release.
