Joe Manchin III

West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin was named Co-Chair of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus (CSC) in the 114th Congress and has been a member since he was elected to the United States Senate in 2010.  As an active member, his top priority is to ensure that all American sportsmen and women continue to enjoy hunting, fishing, recreational shooting and all that the outdoors has to offer.

Senator Manchin remains a lifelong and avid outdoorsman, and he personally understands that America’s hunting and fishing heritage is important to who we are as a nation.  As Governor, he founded the Governors Sportsmen’s Caucus (GSC) to protect and advance the interests of sportsmen and women.  He worked closely with the Division of National Resources to promote West Virginia’s wilderness and outdoor recreation and to successfully add shooting ranges to the state parks. He also worked to institute the Eddie Eagle GunSafe Program and passed the Castle Law in the Mountain State.  A proud supporter of Boy Scouts of America (BSA), he was also influential in bringing the organization’s Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve to the state.

Senator Manchin continues to work for the interests of hunters and anglers in the U.S. Senate.  In addition to serving as Co-Chair of the CSC, he is a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, where he serves on the Subcommittee on Public Lands, Forests and Mining.  He has been an outspoken supporter and sponsor of the Bipartisan Sportsmen’s Act, a package of pro-sportsmen’s legislation he helped craft to enhance outdoor opportunities, reauthorize key conservation programs, improve access to Federal Lands, and help boost the outdoor recreation economy. Senator Manchin always strives to ensure that our treasured wilderness is conserved and protected. He supports programs that will protect not only our nation’s lands and waters, but also our rich culture, unique history, and timeless traditions associated with the countless remarkable places across our country.

“Our outdoor heritage is important to our way of life across our country, especially in my beautiful home state of West Virginia,” Senator Manchin said. “Protecting that heritage is my top priority as Co-Chair of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus. It is truly an honor to be a voice for the millions of hunters, anglers, recreational shooters and outdoor enthusiasts in the United States and to conserve our outdoor wonders and wildlife for generations to come.”

Senator Manchin continues to enjoy hunting, fishing and recreational shooting in West Virginia. With great pride, he has passed the outdoor tradition on to his children and grandchildren.

Senator Manchin celebrates the opening of the Sporting Clay and Shooting Facility at the Canaan Valley State Park in May 2013. The facility is one of several sporting ranges across the state that he facilitated.
