On March 7, more than 50 representatives from the nation’s leading wildlife conservation organizations gathered in Spokane, Washington, for the biannual American Wildlife Conservation Partners (AWCP) meeting. The meeting took place in concert with the 82nd North American Wildlife and Natural Resources Conference.
During the meeting, conservation leaders discussed action plans for recommendations included in the groups’ report, “Wildlife for the 21st Century: Volume 5,” which was released last year. With a new administration and new Congress on Capitol Hill, the group recognized new opportunities for regulatory and legislative actions to implement these recommendations, which support sound, science-based wildlife management, and wildlife conservation.
Studies conducted at both the state and federal level have found that the number of hunters and trappers have been on a generally declining trend over the past several decades. To increase recruitment, retention, and reactivation (R3) of hunters and trappers, which initiative do you think would have the greatest impact?
