On May 13, Representative Triston Cole, Co-Chair of the Michigan Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus, was named “Legislator of the Year” by Safari Club International (SCI) at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. A lifelong sportsman and former hunting guide, Rep. Cole has been a champion for sportsmen and women in the Michigan statehouse.

Rep. Cole was first elected to the Michigan House of Representatives in 2014 to represent Michigan’s Norther Lower Peninsula. Currently serving his third term in the State House, he quickly elevated to the position of Majority Floor Leader. Rep. Cole joined the Caucus in 2015 and has been a Co-Chair since 2016.

“”As a lifelong sportsman myself, being in a position to influence policy that affects the future of hunting, fishing and natural resource conservation is truly an honor,”” said Rep. Cole. “”I truly enjoy helping lead the Michigan’s Legislative Sportsman Caucus, bringing together lawmakers for the purpose of introducing them to the activities that are not only a passion, but a way of life for so many of my fellow sportsmen and women in Michigan. It’s been a privilege to work alongside SCI every step of the way.””

Studies conducted at both the state and federal level have found that the number of hunters and trappers have been on a generally declining trend over the past several decades. To increase recruitment, retention, and reactivation (R3) of hunters and trappers, which initiative do you think would have the greatest impact?
