Ohio: Sportsmen’s Caucus Adds New Leaders

Contact: John Culclasure, Central Appalachian States Manager

Recently, the bicameral and bipartisan Ohio Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus (Caucus) announced the addition of two new Co-Chairs of the Caucus, Senator Michael Rulli and Representative Nino Vitale.

Sen. Rulli said, “I’m excited to lead the Ohio Sportsmen’s Legislative Caucus and look forward to working with the DNR and DOW, the Ohio sportsmen’s community, and my colleagues in the Caucus to advance policies that benefit the sportsmen and women of Ohio.”

Co-Chairing the Caucus alongside Senator Sean O’Brien, Sen. Rulli and Rep. Vitale join a network of pro-sportsmen elected officials in Ohio, including members of the Ohio Congressional delegation and Governor Sportsmen’s Caucus Member Governor Mike DeWine, that are committed to supporting Ohio’s hunters and anglers.

The Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation looks forward to working with Sen. Rulli and Rep. Vitale to protect and advance Ohio’s 1.56 million sportsmen and women who contribute more than $4.3 billion to the state’s economy and last year alone generated more than $60.6 million for conservation through the American System of Conservation Funding.

Studies conducted at both the state and federal level have found that the number of hunters and trappers have been on a generally declining trend over the past several decades. To increase recruitment, retention, and reactivation (R3) of hunters and trappers, which initiative do you think would have the greatest impact?
