Virginia Lieutenant Governor Joins the Governors Sportsmen’s Caucus

The Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF) is pleased to announce that Virginia Lieutenant Governor Ralph Northam has joined the Governors Sportsmen’s Caucus (GSC). In a bipartisan effort to protect and advance hunting, angling, recreational shooting and trapping, the GSC now consists of 29 members, which represent large outdoor constituencies that include many of America’s nearly 40 million hunters and anglers who contribute more than $90 billion annually to the U.S. economy.

“I’m very excited to be the first Lieutenant Governor to join the Governors Sportsmen’s Caucus. Having grown up on Virginia’s Eastern Shore and Chesapeake Bay I’ve been an avid hunter and fisherman my whole life. After serving in the U.S. Army I returned to Hampton Roads where I have continued to serve as a pediatric neurologist for over the last 20 years,” said Lt. Governor Northam. “While it is a full schedule balancing my responsibilities as Lt. Governor and my medical practice, I always look forward to the opportunity to get out on the water. I am eager to begin working with the other members of the GSC to advance our collective hunting and angling interests, as well promote effective fish and wildlife management practices.”

Prior to being elected as Lt. Governor in 2013, Northam previously served in the Virginia Senate, during which time he was an active member of the bipartisan Virginia Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus which works to protect and advance the interests of Virginia’s sportsmen and women in Richmond.

Studies conducted at both the state and federal level have found that the number of hunters and trappers have been on a generally declining trend over the past several decades. To increase recruitment, retention, and reactivation (R3) of hunters and trappers, which initiative do you think would have the greatest impact?
