Representing Kansas’s 54th District, Representative Ken Corbet was first elected to the Kansas House of Representatives in 2010. In 2011, Representative Corbet expressed his commitment to protecting and promoting Kansas’s sporting heritage by joining the Kansas Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus. He currently serves as caucus co-chair as well as Vice-Chair of the Energy and Environment Committee and regularly works with other caucus members to champion pro-sportsmen’s legislation.
Representative Corbet supported HCR 5008, a bill that provided for the right to hunt, fish, and harvest wildlife in the Kansas Constitution. “Colorado’s got Pikes Peak, South Dakota has Mount Rushmore and what Kansas has is our rich outdoor heritage,” said Representative Corbet in an article on HCR 5008. In November of 2016 Kansas became the 21st state to enshrine the right to hunt, fish, and harvest wildlife in the state’s constitution.
A lifelong hunter, Representative Corbet co-founded the Kansas Sport Hunting Association, and is the owner and operator of Ravenwood Lodge, a hunting and shooting lodge outside of Topeka, Kansas. Ravenwood Lodge has hosted many events for the Kansas Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus over the years.
The Sunflower State is home to more than half a million hunters and anglers who spend $629 million annually on their outdoor pursuits. Kansas sportsmen and women support almost 10,000 jobs in the state, proving the vital economic role that the state’s hunters and anglers play in Kansas and in the American System of Conservation Funding.
