Yesterday, the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF), along with dozens of federal and state agency representatives, conservation leaders, and business owners gathered at the White House for a speech by President Trump and numerous representatives from related federal agencies.
During his remarks, the President touched on a number of significant issues of importance to America’s sportsmen and women including proper conservation management of Lake Okeechobee to help restore the Florida Everglades, federal regulations hindering sportsmen and women, and S. 47, the John D. Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act (Dingell Act), among others.
In addition to the President’s speech, Secretary of the Interior David Bernhardt further highlighted the Administration’s commitment to America’s sportsmen and women. His speech included references to a number of critically important issues pertaining to the sporting community including expanding access opportunities on public lands and waters, implementation of sportsmen’s provisions in the Dingell Act, and other conservation initiatives led by the Administration.
During his remarks, Secretary Bernhardt stated, “[The] Interior has also been focused on strengthening the North American Wildlife Conservation Model, which is the best in the world. The model was originally conceived by American hunters and anglers, who were the first to crusade for wildlife protection, and retain some of today’s most important conservation leadership.”
“The Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation applauds President Trump and Secretary Bernhardt for reaffirming their commitment to our nation’s sportsmen and women,” said CSF President Jeff Crane. “Through numerous Secretarial Orders, prioritizing the implementation of the Dingell Act, and other sporting related actions, Secretary Bernhardt continues to clearly demonstrate his personal commitment to advancing public hunting, fishing, recreational shooting, and trapping opportunities on public lands and waters that are managed by the Department of the Interior.”
Studies conducted at both the state and federal level have found that the number of hunters and trappers have been on a generally declining trend over the past several decades. To increase recruitment, retention, and reactivation (R3) of hunters and trappers, which initiative do you think would have the greatest impact?
