As a member of the Marine Protected Areas Federal Advisory Committee, CSF Vice President Gary Kania was invited to submit comments to the Science Advisory Board (SAB) Portfolio Review Task Force regarding NOAA’s research and development needs. Under Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere and NOAA Administrator Dr. Jane Lubchenco recently asked the SAB to review all NOAA research and development and identify opportunities to enhance NOAA’s research portfolio and ensure it is focused on meeting research and development needs for today and the future.
In response to the request for comments, CSF submitted a letter on August 31, 2012, which stressed the importance of ensuring NOAA is meeting its minimum organizational obligations in terms of research and development prior to expanding research opportunities.
Studies conducted at both the state and federal level have found that the number of hunters and trappers have been on a generally declining trend over the past several decades. To increase recruitment, retention, and reactivation (R3) of hunters and trappers, which initiative do you think would have the greatest impact?
