On January 14, the Delaware Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus hosted its first meeting of the 2016 legislative session at the state capitol in Dover, Delaware. The bipartisan and bicameral Caucus is chaired by Senators Bruce Ennis and Brian Pettyjohn, and Representatives Jeff Spiegelman and William Carson. More than a dozen legislators attended the meeting to discuss legislative priorities for the upcoming year.
The policy discussion focused on several priorities for the Caucus in the upcoming legislative session, including liability insurance for processors wishing to participate in game meat donation programs, handgun hunting, and hunting license fee increases.
“Today’s meeting was exactly the reason why I was so excited about starting this Caucus. Getting everyone in the same room, with like-minded goals, is absolutely the best way of getting things moving in a positive direction,” said Representative Spiegelman. “I am more confident than ever in the caucus’ ability to provide a valuable forum and service to Delaware’s hunting, trapping, and fishing community.”
Caucus members were joined by David Saveikis, Director of the Delaware Division of Fish and Wildlife, and other members of the Delaware sportsmen’s community who provided valuable input and insight to the discussion.
Studies conducted at both the state and federal level have found that the number of hunters and trappers have been on a generally declining trend over the past several decades. To increase recruitment, retention, and reactivation (R3) of hunters and trappers, which initiative do you think would have the greatest impact?
