Delaware: Sportsmen’s Caucus Member Senator Lawson Guest Speaker at Women in the Outdoors Seminar

On January 5, Delaware Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus member Senator Dave Lawson and Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF) Mid-Atlantic States Coordinator Kara Hartman spoke at a sportsmen’s seminar in Christiana, Delaware, hosted by The Sisterhood of the Outdoors.

Held at the Cabela’s store, the seminar focused primarily on women in the outdoors, and provided an opportunity for attendees to learn about shotgun safety and tips from Team Beretta USA, waterfowl hunting etiquette and protocol from The Sisterhood of the Outdoors, and enforcement of fish and wildlife conservation laws and the importance of wildlife conservation from Delaware Natural Resources and Environmental Control’s Fish & Wildlife Natural Resources Police.

Additionally, Senator Lawson discussed the importance of sportsmen and women to fish and wildlife conservation, as well as upcoming legislation that is appearing in the Delaware General Assembly. “It is so great to see that more women are getting exposed to, and involved in hunting and the shooting sports,” said Senator Lawson. “Research shows that women are now the fastest growing segment of the hunting community, and each year are contributing more and more to both conservation and the economy through their participation.”

Studies conducted at both the state and federal level have found that the number of hunters and trappers have been on a generally declining trend over the past several decades. To increase recruitment, retention, and reactivation (R3) of hunters and trappers, which initiative do you think would have the greatest impact?
