Managing Our Nation’s Fisheries III: Advancing Sustainability Conference Taking Place This Week

On May 7-9, CSF staff will participate in the Managing Our Nation’s Fisheries III: Advancing Sustainability Conference in Washington, D.C. The conference will examine three theme areas, each of which focuses on policy, science, and process issues associated with three germane topic areas of high current interest. Findings that emerge from this national conference regarding advancing sustainable fishery management practices could be considered for changes to current policy or regulatory approaches developed at Regional Fishery Management Councils or implemented by the National Marine Fisheries Service, or legislative changes via reauthorization of the Magnuson–Stevens Act, as appropriate.

As a courtesy to those who will not be able to attend the conference, the Pacific Fishery Management Council will broadcast several sessions of the conference, including the conference banquet speaker on May 8, and plenary sessions on May 9 live (audio) on the internet. Click here for more information on how to live stream the conference.

Studies conducted at both the state and federal level have found that the number of hunters and trappers have been on a generally declining trend over the past several decades. To increase recruitment, retention, and reactivation (R3) of hunters and trappers, which initiative do you think would have the greatest impact?
