Michigan: Governor Appoints CSF Staff to Wildlife Council

On December 10, Governors Sportsmen’s Caucus Member Governor Rick Snyder appointed Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF) Upper Midwestern States Manager Nick Buggia to serve on the Michigan Wildlife Council (MWC).

The council was created in 2013 to implement and oversee a public education campaign about the importance of the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation and the American System of Conservation Funding. The MWC is comprised of nine members appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate.

On his appointment, Buggia said, “As a lifelong Michigan hunter and angler, I look forward to serving on the council. It is important that we help people understand that sportsmen and women are the backbone of conservation, not only in Michigan but across the country.”

Studies conducted at both the state and federal level have found that the number of hunters and trappers have been on a generally declining trend over the past several decades. To increase recruitment, retention, and reactivation (R3) of hunters and trappers, which initiative do you think would have the greatest impact?
