Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation Celebrates California Sportsmen’s Heritage

Against the backdrop of Sonoma Valley, California, the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF) hosted the 2014 “California Wine & Wildlife,” reception and dinner.

Bringing its mission to California, CSF was joined in Sonoma by members of the sportsmen’s conservation community and other supporters to celebrate California’s rich sportsmen’s heritage. Attendees enjoyed a round of sporting clays at the Wing & Barrel Ranch followed by a reception and dinner. The evening served as an opportunity for the hunting and angling community to come together to discuss the importance for sportsmen and women to have a voice in the halls of government.

CSF President Jeff Crane welcomed guests and thanked everyone who made the event possible. “As we work with the bipartisan Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus (CSC) on Capitol Hill, we also work outside our nation’s capitol with like-minded sportsmen and women in order to continue our mission throughout the states. Today’s event gives us the opportunity to thank sportsmen and women of California who are supporting our hunting and angling traditions.”

Past Chair and current member of the CSC, Representative Mike Thompson (CA), addressed the crowd. “We need to figure out how to come together to promote policy on conservation, hunting, and fishing for our children and grandchildren. If you’re like me, you grew up hunting and fishing, and know how important it is,” stated Rep. Thompson.

Studies conducted at both the state and federal level have found that the number of hunters and trappers have been on a generally declining trend over the past several decades. To increase recruitment, retention, and reactivation (R3) of hunters and trappers, which initiative do you think would have the greatest impact?
