CSF Applauds the Interior Department for Creation of Two New Federal Advisory Committees

In late 2017, Department of the Interior (DOI) Secretary Ryan Zinke announced the creation of two new Federal Advisory Committees (FAC): the International Wildlife Conservation Council and Hunting and Shooting Sports Conservation Council.

The International Wildlife Conservation Council will advise and provide recommendations to the Secretary of the Interior on the benefits of international hunting. Specifically, the Council will advise the Secretary on issues related to international wildlife and habitat conservation, anti-poaching and illegal wildlife trafficking programs, and other important issues that impact the benefits of international hunting.

The Hunting and Shooting Sports Conservation Council will advise and provide recommendations to the Agriculture and Interior Secretaries.  It will also provide advice and recommendations on a wide range of issues including: wildlife and habitat conservation, increasing access to hunting and the shooting sports on public and private lands, increasing public awareness about the importance and benefits of hunting, and many other issues that relate to America’s sportsmen and women.

“The Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF) applauds the Department of the Interior and Secretary Zinke for their leadership in advancing the interests of America’s sportsmen and women, with the creation of these two important federal advisory committees,” said CSF President Jeff Crane.

Studies conducted at both the state and federal level have found that the number of hunters and trappers have been on a generally declining trend over the past several decades. To increase recruitment, retention, and reactivation (R3) of hunters and trappers, which initiative do you think would have the greatest impact?
