The Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF), the nation’s leading bipartisan organization working to protect and advance hunting, angling, recreational shooting, trapping, and professional fish and wildlife management, announced today that Sofia Mollett has joined the organization as the Rocky Mountain States Coordinator. In this role, Sofia will work closely with the state legislative sportsmen’s caucuses under the National Assembly of Sportsmen’s Caucuses (NASC) and members of the Governors Sportsmen’s Caucus (GSC) in Colorado, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, and Wyoming to protect and promote America’s outdoor traditions.
“Hunting and fishing embody the spirit of the American West, and these traditions are what make the Rocky Mountain Region what it is,” said Sofia Mollet. “I’m honored to join the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation to help safeguard them for sportsmen and women and the future generations to enjoy. CSF’s staff is truly top-caliber, and I’m proud to represent the Rocky Mountain Region that I was born and raised in.”
Sofia joins CSF with a background in human dimensions research, examining the role hunters play in wildlife management and how hunters interact with and provide public input to state wildlife agencies. Through her research, she has come to understand how engaging with and listening to sportsmen and women helps make policy more collaborative and better supported. With this background, Sofia hopes to bring a strong research foundation to help keep policy well-informed, collaborative, and bipartisan.
Outside of research, Sofia has built a career dedicated to conservation. She worked as a wildlife technician with Colorado Parks and Wildlife, gaining hands-on experience with wildlife and the research state agencies conduct on species within their borders. She also served as a Park Ranger with Larimer County, where she got a firsthand look at on-the-ground natural resource management and worked directly with the public on how to use natural resources responsibly while preserving and respecting them.
Sofia has also been an active sportswoman since she was a kid—from her first hunt (a pheasant hunt!) she was hooked. From bird hunting, she expanded into rifle hunting deer, elk, pronghorn, and eventually grew into a passionate elk archery hunter. It was her experiences hunting in the Colorado backcountry that sparked her real passion for conservation. For her, there’s nothing better than a hard backcountry hike, flushing grouse, breaking branches, heavy packs, and bugles filling the vast Colorado wilderness.
