On January 8, Congressional Sportsmen Foundation (CSF) Southeastern States Director Bee Frederick attended and presented at the Georgia Wildlife Federation (GWF) Keeping Georgia Wild Summit.
The bi-annual meeting, organized by GWF, brings together the sportsmen’s community with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and legislative leaders to discuss issues of importance for sportsmen and women in the Peach State prior to each legislative session.
Numerous representatives from NGOs and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources attended the Summit. Also in attendance were National Assembly of Sportsmen’s Caucuses (NASC) President and Georgia Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus Co-Chair Senator Bill Heath as well as Caucus Co-Chair, and House Game, Fish, and Parks Committee Chairman, Representative David Knight. Senate Game, Fish, and Parks Committee Chairman Senator Tyler Harper also was in attendance. Attendees discussed their legislative priorities for the year and their support for the economically important traditions of hunting and angling in Georgia.
CSF and the Georgia Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus plans to participate in Keeping Georgia Wild Day at the Capitol on Tuesday, February 19. The Georgia Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus will also host the 2019 NASC Annual Sportsman-Legislator Summit this November.
Studies conducted at both the state and federal level have found that the number of hunters and trappers have been on a generally declining trend over the past several decades. To increase recruitment, retention, and reactivation (R3) of hunters and trappers, which initiative do you think would have the greatest impact?
