Kansas: Governor Colyer Takes Office, Joins Governors Sportsmen’s Caucus

On January 31, former Lieutenant Governor Dr. Jeff Colyer was sworn in as Kansas’s 47th Governor. He assumed the office from former Governor Sam Brownback, who was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on January 24 as the U.S. Ambassador-At-Large for International Religious Freedom. Upon taking office, Governor Colyer also joined the Governors Sportsmen’s Caucus as the 36th member.

“I’m honored to represent Kansas as a member of this Caucus,” said Governor Colyer. “Our state’s well managed natural resources make Kansas a prime destination for sportsmen, women, and conservationists of all kinds.”

Governor Colyer joins Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus Members Senator Jerry Moran, Senator Pat Roberts, Representative Lynn Jenkins, Representative Roger Marshall, Representative Kevin Yoder, as well as members of the Kansas Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus representing the hunters, anglers, trappers, and recreational shooters of the Sunflower State.

Kansas’s 527,000 plus hunters and anglers spend over $630 million annually on their outdoor pursuits, supporting about 10,000 jobs in the state and contributing millions of dollars to the conservation of Kansas’s wildlife and natural resources.

Studies conducted at both the state and federal level have found that the number of hunters and trappers have been on a generally declining trend over the past several decades. To increase recruitment, retention, and reactivation (R3) of hunters and trappers, which initiative do you think would have the greatest impact?
