Louisiana: Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation Attends Coastal Conservation Association Legislative Rodeo

Contact: Bee Frederick, Southeastern States Director

During the first weekend in August, the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF) sponsored the annual Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) Louisiana Legislative Rodeo in Grand Isle.

CSF’s Fisheries Program Director Chris Horton and Southeastern States Director Bee Frederick attended the event and used it as an opportunity to discuss needed improvements to fisheries management in Louisiana and across the Gulf of Mexico.

The event brought together over 200 stakeholders from the Sportsman’s Paradise, including: Governors Sportsmen’s Caucus Member Governor John Bel Edwards, Members of Congress, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries staff and commissioners, well over 50 state legislators, and numerous conservation partners.

CSF’s Fisheries Program Director Horton noted the longstanding partnership between CSF and CCA. “CSF is proud to sponsor the awards dinner again this year for the CCA Legislative Rodeo. CCA and CSF continue to enjoy a strong partnership on the national and state level, working on fisheries policy, and these events provide an excellent opportunity for decision makers to come together. CSF thanks all of the elected officials, state and federal agency staff, and others who have put in the hard work on behalf of recreational anglers.”

Studies conducted at both the state and federal level have found that the number of hunters and trappers have been on a generally declining trend over the past several decades. To increase recruitment, retention, and reactivation (R3) of hunters and trappers, which initiative do you think would have the greatest impact?
