Maine’s moose lottery drawing has historically amassed a crowd in the hundreds, pulling together individuals from across the Northeast region who are awaiting the news of whether they were lucky enough to draw one of the heralded moose hunting permits. While this may have been the case during previous years, the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife (MDIFW) was forced to pull an audible for the 2020 drawing, given the current state of affairs.
Beginning at 1 p.m. on June 13, the MDIFW will start the process of randomly selecting the lottery participants to receive moose hunting permits; however, this will all be done through a virtual broadcast. While this may dampen the overall congeniality and celebratory atmosphere that is typically present during the Maine moose lottery, the fact still stands that this is a unique chance to participate in an exclusive hunting opportunity, and many fortunate sportsmen and women will see their names selected.
