In preparation for the 2020 legislative session, the bipartisan and bicameral New York Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus has added a new leader to their ranks – Assemblyman Colin Schmitt (99th Assembly District).
“Protecting our hunting and fishing traditions in New York State as well as conserving our land, water and natural resources has been a significant focus of mine since being elected to the State Assembly,” stated Assemblyman Colin Schmitt. “I am honored and humbled to be appointed as Co-Chair of the Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus while still a freshman in the Assembly. I am grateful for the opportunity to assume this statewide leadership role within the National Assembly of Sportsmen’s Caucuses organization.”
Assemblyman Schmitt joins current leaders Assembly Member Aileen Gunther, Assemblyman Clifford Crouch, and Senator Joseph Griffo. The New York Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus was formed when the National Assembly of Sportsmen’s Caucuses was launched in 2004, and serves as the voice of New York’s 2.1 million sportsmen and women in matters before the legislature in Albany.

Studies conducted at both the state and federal level have found that the number of hunters and trappers have been on a generally declining trend over the past several decades. To increase recruitment, retention, and reactivation (R3) of hunters and trappers, which initiative do you think would have the greatest impact?
