Pennsylvania: CSF and Conservation Partners Oppose House Bill 2083

On September 6, the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF), alongside numerous conservation partners, submitted a letter of opposition on Pennsylvania House Bill 2083 (HB 2083) to members of the Pennsylvania House State Government Committee. The following conservation organizations joined CSF in voicing concerns about HB 2083: Ducks Unlimited, National Deer Alliance, National Wild Turkey Federation, Pennsylvania Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs, Pheasants Forever/Quail Forever, Quality Deer Management Association, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Safari Club International (SCI), SCI – Allegheny Mountains Chapter, and SCI – Three State Chapter.

Among the many concerns the signatories raised with regards to this legislation, HB 2083 would jeopardize approximately $25 million in conservation funding generated by Pennsylvania’s sportsmen and women and would significantly curtail the Pennsylvania Game Commission’s (PGC) ability to manage the wildlife resources of the Commonwealth. This legislation undermines professional wildlife management and will negatively impact the ability of the PGC to properly carry out its mission.

HB 2083 will be heard in committee on Tuesday, September 20th, Pennsylvania hunters should contact members of the Pennsylvania House State Government Committee to voice their opposition.

Studies conducted at both the state and federal level have found that the number of hunters and trappers have been on a generally declining trend over the past several decades. To increase recruitment, retention, and reactivation (R3) of hunters and trappers, which initiative do you think would have the greatest impact?
