Sportsmen’s Conservation Groups Express Support for Congressman Ryan Zinke Interior Nomination

On January 12, over 40 of the nation’s leading hunting, fishing, and other conservation organizations expressed their support for Congressman Ryan Zinke’s (MT) nomination to serve as 52nd Secretary of the Interior under the Trump Administration.

Member organizations from the American Wildlife Conservation Partners and Fishnet sent a letter to the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee prior to the Committee’s confirmation hearing, which was held on January 18.

Rep. Zinke, a Member of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus (CSC) since his election to Congress in 2014, is an avid sportsman and has shown a commitment to working with the sportsmen’s community to seek a balanced approach to natural resource and public land management. Further, he understands the important role that outdoor recreation, including hunting and fishing, plays in the conservation of fish and wildlife resources.

Studies conducted at both the state and federal level have found that the number of hunters and trappers have been on a generally declining trend over the past several decades. To increase recruitment, retention, and reactivation (R3) of hunters and trappers, which initiative do you think would have the greatest impact?
