Tennessee Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus Hosts Annual Dove Hunt

Contact: John Culclasure, Southeastern States Assistant Director

On September 2, the Tennessee Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus (Caucus) hosted their annual dove hunt at the Lock Five Farms in Lebanon.

Hosted in conjunction with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Foundation, the dove hunt provided an opportunity for Caucus members, sportsmen’s groups, Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency leadership and Commissioners to enjoy a day afield together, celebrating Tennessee’s outdoor sporting heritage.

“The dove hunt is a great event that brings together sportsmen-legislators from both sides of the aisle,” said National Assembly of Sportsmen’s Caucus Executive Council Member Senator Mike Bell. “We had a strong turnout from a wide range of partners in the Tennessee sportsmen’s community and I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to everyone that helped make the event possible.”

More than 50 people, including roughly 15 Caucus members, attended the dove hunt. Notable attendees included Caucus Co-Chair Representative Bob Freeman and Speaker of the House Representative Cameron Sexton, among others.

Many thanks to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Foundation and David McMahan for hosting the event.

Studies conducted at both the state and federal level have found that the number of hunters and trappers have been on a generally declining trend over the past several decades. To increase recruitment, retention, and reactivation (R3) of hunters and trappers, which initiative do you think would have the greatest impact?
