On April 26, Senate Concurrent Memorial (SCM) 1004 was passed by the Arizona Senate with bipartisan support. Introduced by Arizona Legislators for Wildlife Caucus President Senator Gail Griffin, SCM 1004 celebrates the vast contributions of Arizona’s sportsmen and women to conservation in the state and across the country.
“SCM 1004 passed both the Senate and House of Representatives and went to the Secretary of State’s office. Copies will go to President Trump and Arizona Congressmen,” said Sen. Griffin.
In addition to highlighting the vital and historic role that Arizona’s sportsmen and women play in conservation, the Memorial urged, “that the United States Congress respect the historic and current use of Arizona’s recreational areas by sportsmen and sportswomen, support the time-honored Arizona traditions of hunting and angling, the very backbone of conservation, and respect the administration of wildlife conservation through the sound science delivered by the Arizona Game and Fish Department and science-based policies developed by the Arizona Game and Fish Commission.”
Through the American System of Conservation Funding, Arizona’s sportsmen and women contribute over $53 million to conservation in the state each year, and support over 18,000 jobs.
Studies conducted at both the state and federal level have found that the number of hunters and trappers have been on a generally declining trend over the past several decades.
