The Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF) recently showed support for H.R. 3728, the Wild Game Donation Act introduced by Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus (CSC) member Representative Don Young. H.R. 3728 will make hunters who donate meat to food-based charities eligible for a tax credit for the processing cost of their game meat, as well as provide a tax deduction for processors who take part in charitable donation programs and protects against the use of spoiled meats for charitable contributions.
This legislation will help feed hungry families throughout the United States by making it more affordable for hunters to donate meat to food-based charities.
CSF’s President Jeff Crane showed his support for this vital legislation: “Every year, hunters across the U.S. take it upon themselves to donate more than 2.8 million pounds of venison to food banks and church kitchens. Yet, with nearly 400 million pounds of deer meat harvested annually, hunters have the ability to assume an even more central role in helping to solve this nation’s hunger problem. We believe that the Wild Game Donation Act will encourage more hunters and processors to donate their game to charity. The Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation is proud to support this bipartisan piece of legislation.”
