On Saturday, February 23, Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF) Western States Manager Andy Treharne appeared on KNST Tucson’s Arizona Outdoors program to discuss the economic impact of Arizona’s sportsmen and women with host Paul Birmingham. In short, the economic benefits, which are outlined in CSF’s recently released State Economic Impact Report (SEIR) for Arizona, are staggering:
• 786,000 people hunted or fished in Arizona during 2011;
• Sportsmen and women spent $1.2 billion on hunting and fishing in Arizona;
• Hunters and anglers supported 18,220 jobs in Arizona; and
• Arizona sportsmen and women generated $132 million in state and local taxes in 2011.

Studies conducted at both the state and federal level have found that the number of hunters and trappers have been on a generally declining trend over the past several decades.
