On August 8-11 Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF) staff hosted a booth at the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) Annual Summit in Chicago, IL. Every year state legislators, legislative staff, policy professionals, and government officials from across the country attend NCSL to participate in educational workshops and policy discussions. CSF staff used the opportunity to interact with conference attendees and promote the National Assembly of Sportsmen’s Caucuses (NASC).
NASC Executive Council President Senator Robin Webb (KY), Vice President Representative Brandon Phelps (SC), and EC member Representative Brian White (SC) helped man the CSF booth and talked with other legislators, discussing the benefits of the NASC program and encouraging legislators to join their state sportsmen’s caucuses.
On the chance to represent NASC at NCSL, Senator Robin Webb remarked, “It is always an honor to promote the good work state legislative sportsmen’s caucuses do to advance and protect our sporting traditions that are the fabric of our country’s heritage.”
With more than 5,000 people attending the conference, CSF capitalized on the chance to inform legislators about the economic impact that sportsmen and women have in their states and promoted the American System of Conservation Funding. In 2011 alone, America’s 37 million sportsmen and women contributed more than $90 billion to the national economy. Individual state economic impact reports and other CSF educational materials were well-received by conference attendees.
Studies conducted at both the state and federal level have found that the number of hunters and trappers have been on a generally declining trend over the past several decades. To increase recruitment, retention, and reactivation (R3) of hunters and trappers, which initiative do you think would have the greatest impact?
