On March 9, the Georgia Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus hosted an indoor shooting range event at Stoddard’s Indoor Gun Range in downtown Atlanta. The event provided an opportunity for legislators, legislative staffers, and conservation partners to receive professional firearm training and instruction as well as discuss important conservation issues.
Senate Caucus Chair and National Assembly of Sportsmen’s Caucuses (NASC) Executive Council Vice President Senator Bill Heath and House Caucus Chair Representative David Knight welcomed more than 30 legislators representing both political parties and both chambers, and thanked them for their commitment to protecting and advancing the interests of sportsmen and women.
Sen. Heath noted the growth and strength of the NASC program which now includes 48 states and over 2000 state legislators. Representative Knight discussed the importance of the American System of Conservation Funding and the contributions made through recreational shooting as well as the purchase of hunting and fishing licenses.
The event was made possible by generous support from the American Suppressor Association, Georgia Carry, the National Rifle Association, National Shooting Sports Foundation, and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
Studies conducted at both the state and federal level have found that the number of hunters and trappers have been on a generally declining trend over the past several decades.
