Interior Secretary Zinke Appoints Greg Sheehan as Fish and Wildlife Service Deputy Director

On June 5, Secretary of the Interior (DOI) Ryan Zinke announced the appointment of Greg Sheehan as Deputy Director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Sheehan previously served as Director of the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources. In addition, he is an avid hunter and angler, and has volunteered his time as a leader for many wildlife conservation organizations including the Council to Advance Hunting and the Shooting Sports and the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies.

According to a DOI statement, Sheehan said, “”I am thrilled to have an opportunity to work with Secretary Zinke and the great team at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. I look forward to helping promote the fish and wildlife resources in America through collaborative partnerships with states, local government, the sportsmen’s community, and others.””

Sheehan will serve as Acting Director of the USFWS until a Director is confirmed.

Studies conducted at both the state and federal level have found that the number of hunters and trappers have been on a generally declining trend over the past several decades. To increase recruitment, retention, and reactivation (R3) of hunters and trappers, which initiative do you think would have the greatest impact?
