In the near future, the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife (MassWildlife) will be announcing the date, time, and location of the Fisheries and Wildlife Board’s public hearing regarding the topic of coyote hunting contests.
Earlier this summer, the Fisheries and Wildlife Board received regulatory recommendations from MassWildlife, suggesting significant changes to the practice of these hunting contests in response to misinformed public pressures.
Logistical information will be forthcoming as they are released by the Division. The hearing will be open to the public and offers the options of providing either written or oral testimony. The Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation will continue to follow the progression of this issue and will be weighing in on this critical topic to ensure the voice of sportsmen and women is heard in the decision-making process.
Studies conducted at both the state and federal level have found that the number of hunters and trappers have been on a generally declining trend over the past several decades. To increase recruitment, retention, and reactivation (R3) of hunters and trappers, which initiative do you think would have the greatest impact?
