North Carolina Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus Hosts Annual Advisory Council Dinner

In June, members of the sportsmen’s community and sportsmen-legislators gathered in Cary, North Carolina for the annual North Carolina Legislative Sportsmen’s Advisory Council Dinner.

The event celebrated North Carolina’s rich outdoor heritage, provided an evening of camaraderie and promoted the economic impact of hunting and angling generated in the state of North Carolina.

Funding for a total of ten Action Trackchairs was secured at the event. Action Trackchairs are all-terrain wheelchairs designed to increase the recreational opportunities – including hunting and angling – for the physically handicapped.  These chairs were then given to the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, complementing the Commission’s 10 hydraulic lifts to increase accessibility for physically disabled hunters.

The North Carolina Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus works to protect and promote hunting, recreational fishing and shooting and trapping in the North Carolina State House. Among their recent successes is the recently signed legislation establishing a hunter apprenticeship permit which will provide a needed avenue for increased hunter recruitment and retention.

Studies conducted at both the state and federal level have found that the number of hunters and trappers have been on a generally declining trend over the past several decades. To increase recruitment, retention, and reactivation (R3) of hunters and trappers, which initiative do you think would have the greatest impact?
