On September 26, the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation joined with 24 other members of the American Wildlife Conservation Partners to submit a letter to the leaders of the House and Senate Committees, encouraging them to take action on bills related to Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD).
Specifically, the letter encourages action by the House Committee on Natural Resources; House Committee on Agriculture; and the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry. Bills that aim to prevent the spread of CWD include H.R. 4454 (the Chronic Wasting Disease Management Act, sponsored by Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus (CSC) Member Congressman Ron Kind), S. 2252 (the Chronic Wasting Disease Support for States Act, sponsored by CSC Member Senator Jon Tester), and H.R. 6272 (the Chronic Wasting Disease Transmission in Cervidae Study Act, sponsored by CSC Member Congressman Ralph Abraham).
Studies conducted at both the state and federal level have found that the number of hunters and trappers have been on a generally declining trend over the past several decades.
