Connecticut: Caucus Prepares for Wild Game Meat Tasting Reception

Contact: Joe Mullin, New England States Coordinator

On January 22, the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF) attended the Connecticut Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus’ second meeting of the year in Hartford.

The meeting was largely a planning and organizational meeting for subsequent events that will occur later in the session including the Second Annual Caucus Game Meat Tasting Reception. The Caucus Co-Chairs and members set a laudable goal of surpassing the success of last year’s reception, to provide an opportunity for friendly conversations between both the hunting and non-hunting communities over wild game hors d’oeuvres.

Last year’s event, heralded as the largest attended event in the Legislative Office Building, proved to be an experiential opportunity for both hunting veterans and novices alike. Attendees tasted new and unique wild-game recipes while learning about the vital role that sportsmen and women hold as primary source of state-level conservation funding through the American System of Conservation Funding, while also witnessing the supportive community function of game meat donation programs.

The Caucus primarily discussed budgetary items and other event planning details – laying the foundation for another impressive and successful reception. CSF will continue to remain a line of support for the Caucus and looks forward to assisting in the organization of another remarkable reception.

Studies conducted at both the state and federal level have found that the number of hunters and trappers have been on a generally declining trend over the past several decades. To increase recruitment, retention, and reactivation (R3) of hunters and trappers, which initiative do you think would have the greatest impact?
