CSF Welcomes New Caucus Co-Chair in Georgia

Senator Russ Goodman
Article Contact: Mark Lance,

Why It Matters: Senator Goodman stepping into this leadership role is important to the advancement of the Caucus as Senator Harper provided invaluable leadership to its success. From the mountains to the coast, Georgia features a robust assortment of hunting and fishing opportunities, and the bicameral and bipartisan Caucus serves on the front lines of protecting and promoting these opportunities for the Peach State’s sportsmen and women.

Highlights:

  • Recently, Senator Russ Goodman accepted the leadership position of Senate Co-Chair for the bipartisan Georgia Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus (Caucus).
  • Senator Goodman steps into this position following former Caucus Co-Chair Senator Tyler Harper’s successful bid to become Georgia’s Commissioner of Agriculture.
  • Senator Goodman joins Representative David Knight as Co-Chairs of the Caucus.

In addition to a strong state Caucus leadership bench, Georgia’s pro-sportsmen delegation also features Governors Sportsmen’s Caucus Member Governor Brian Kemp and several members of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus.

The Caucus experienced several wins on pro-sportsmen legislation this year, including extending the baseline date for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ No-Net-Loss statute to protect hundreds of thousands of acreage available for hunting opportunities on DNR managed state-owned lands, strengthening Georgia’s Chronic Wasting Disease prevention strategy, and expanding trapping opportunities for raccoons and opossums on private land.

Additionally, in 2021 alone, sportsmen and women in Georgia contributed over $64 million to conservation funding through the “user pays — public benefits” structure known as the American System of Conservation Funding. This further emphasizes the need for hunters and anglers to continue to have strong representation in the Capitol.

The Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation looks forward to working with Senator Goodman and thanks Georgia Commissioner of Agriculture-Elect Tyler Harper for his invaluable leadership during his time as Caucus Co-Chair and wishes him the best of success in his new role.
