Let the Feathers Fly – TN Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus Hosts Successful Annual Dove Hunt

Article Contact: Conner Barker,

Why It Matters: Under the National Assembly of Sportsmen’s Caucuses (NASC) umbrella, the Tennessee Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus (Caucus) is a bipartisan group of state legislators that serves to protect hunting, angling, shooting sports, and trapping in the Volunteer State. Even during the interim, the Caucus hosts events which provide legislators the opportunity to interact with members of the sporting-conservation community, as we all prepare for the upcoming 2026 legislative session.

Highlights:

  • On September 2, the Caucus hosted its annual Legislative Dove Hunt just south of Nashville, Tennessee.
  • The event kicked off with lunch and brief remarks from Caucus leadership and staff from both the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) and Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF), followed by an evening of dove hunting and camaraderie among attendees.
  • The event was strongly attended by Caucus members, sporting-conservation partners, and TWRA staff.

Labor Day weekend typically holds a special spot on the calendar for many people – college football, the unofficial end to summer, back yard barbecues, vacations, and more. But likely the shining light for many sportsmen and women is the official start to dove season in many states – Tennessee included. The Caucus wasted no time in getting afield for what turned out to be an outstanding day of dove hunting on the heels of Labor Day weekend.

Attendees of this year’s dove hunt enjoyed a beautiful afternoon afield in what turned out to be a productive day of wing shooting and discussing the highly anticipated 22nd Annual NASC Sportsman-Legislator Summit, slated to take place in Memphis, Tennessee December 9 – 12th. The Summit will be co-hosted by the Tennessee and Mississippi Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucuses and is shaping up to be a top-notch event, just before many 2026 state legislative sessions kick off the following month. The NASC Summit is the only national conference for state legislators dedicated to advancing America’s hunting, fishing, recreational shooting, and trapping heritage. Each year, state legislators, sporting-conservation partners, and state fish and wildlife agency staff travel from around the country for three days of educational programming and outdoor activities geared at protecting our time-honored traditions.

Additionally, attendees of the Caucus event were able to have discussions on plans and policy initiatives for the 2026 legislative session in Tennessee, including a push for proactive policies like a hunter education in schools initiative like we saw in Georgia earlier this year, dedicated conservation funding, and more.

CSF would like to thank everyone involved in hosting another successful Caucus Dove Hunt, especially the TWRA, Tennessee Wildlife Resources Foundation, Caucus leadership, and the many sponsors of the event. Additionally, the Tennessee and Mississippi Caucuses look forward to welcoming everyone from around the country to join them in Memphis.
