Pennsylvania: GSC Co-Chair Governor Tom Wolf Holds Ceremonial Bill Signing for Landmark Sunday Hunting Bill

Contact: Brent Miller, Senior Director, Northeastern States and States Program Director

On December 17, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf, Co-Chair of the bipartisan Governors Sportsmen’s Caucus, held a ceremonial bill signing for S. 147 in Harrisburg, PA.

As previously reported by the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF), S. 147 is landmark legislation in the Keystone State, which eliminates some of the restrictions on Sunday hunting which had been in place for more than three centuries.

Joining Gov. Wolf at the bill signing were bill sponsors and Co-Chairs of the bipartisan and bicameral Pennsylvania Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus, Senators Dan Laughlin and Jim Brewster. Several other Caucus members who were instrumental to the bill’s passage and ardent supporters of Sunday hunting in Pennsylvania also attended the bill signing, including Rep. Bill Kortz – the Democratic Chair of the Pennsylvania House Game and Fisheries Committee, where some of the final hurdles before bill passage were overcome.

The Pennsylvania Board of Game Commissioners will be adopting regulations to implement Sunday hunting for the 2020 hunting seasons in the near future.

Studies conducted at both the state and federal level have found that the number of hunters and trappers have been on a generally declining trend over the past several decades. To increase recruitment, retention, and reactivation (R3) of hunters and trappers, which initiative do you think would have the greatest impact?
