Pennsylvania: Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus Hosts Organizational and Policy Meeting

By Brett Stayton, Mid-Atlantic States Coordinator

On April 18, the Pennsylvania Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus hosted an organizational breakfast and policy meeting to discuss key policy issues and upcoming events in the Keystone State.

Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF) Mid-Atlantic States Coordinator Brett Stayton delivered a presentation outlining the benefits of being a member of the Caucus, including the various products and services that CSF provides for sportsmen’s caucuses within the National Assembly of Sportsmen’s Caucuses (NASC).

In addition to the four Caucus Co-Chairs: Senator Jim Brewster, Senator Patrick Stafano, Representative Ryan Warner, and Representative Eddie Pashinski; and many Caucus members, also in attendance were the Executive Directors of both the Pennsylvania Game Commission and the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission; Rob Miller, the sportsmen’s adviser for Vice-Chair of the Governors Sportsmen’s Caucus Governor Tom Wolf; and other representatives of the state’s sportsmen-conservation community.

“The Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation has been instrumental to work with as we develop pro-sportsmen’s policies for Pennsylvania hunters and anglers,” said Sen. Brewster. “The Pennsylvania Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus looks forward to enhancing recreational access and opportunities in the legislature this year for the state’s 1.4 million sportsmen and women.”

The bipartisan, bicameral Pennsylvania Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus was founded in 2004 in conjunction with NASC and has 62 members.

The next policy forum will be held in June.

Studies conducted at both the state and federal level have found that the number of hunters and trappers have been on a generally declining trend over the past several decades. To increase recruitment, retention, and reactivation (R3) of hunters and trappers, which initiative do you think would have the greatest impact?
