Pennsylvania: Semi-automatic Firearms Hunting Bill Heads to Governor’s Desk

On October 27, the Pennsylvania House overwhelmingly voted in favor (160-25) of Pennsylvania House Bill 263, which will provide hunters the opportunity to use semiautomatic handguns and rifles to harvest game. PA HB 263 was introduced in February 2015 by Pennsylvania Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus member Representative Matt Gabler, and co-sponsored by six other Caucus members. The pro-sportsmen legislation passed out of the Senate on October 26, 2016 with a vote of 40-7. The bill is now headed to Governors Sportsmen’s Caucus member Governor Tom Wolf’s desk. CSF is working with Governor Wolf’s office to ensure that the legislation is signed into law.

Studies conducted at both the state and federal level have found that the number of hunters and trappers have been on a generally declining trend over the past several decades. To increase recruitment, retention, and reactivation (R3) of hunters and trappers, which initiative do you think would have the greatest impact?
