Scott Mason Confirmed as Next Executive Director of the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department

Contact: Joe Mullin, New England States Senior Coordinator

By a vote of 3-1 held on August 5, the New Hampshire Executive Council confirmed Scott Mason for the position of Executive Director of the New Hampshire Fish and Game (NHFG) Department. This decision follows a nomination by Governors Sportsmen’s Caucus Member Governor Chris Sununu, as well as a public hearing held on July 30. The Executive Council received significant support for Mason through both written and spoken testimony.

A letter of support was submitted by several Co-Chairs of the New Hampshire Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus, encouraging the Executive Council to confirm Scott Mason as the NHFG Department’s Executive Director. As the letter highlights, “Throughout Scott’s professional career, he has built and maintained honest and reliable relationships with parties in several key industries and across the political aisle, reflected by his appointment to numerous positions by Governor Sununu and U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue.”

As Executive Director, Scott Mason is responsible for overseeing all NHFG Department functions and the enforcement of New Hampshire’s laws and regulations regarding fish, wildlife, and their respective resources. The Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation congratulates Scott Mason on this monumental point in his career and looks forward to working alongside him in protecting and advancing hunting, fishing, recreational shooting, and trapping in the Granite State.

Studies conducted at both the state and federal level have found that the number of hunters and trappers have been on a generally declining trend over the past several decades. To increase recruitment, retention, and reactivation (R3) of hunters and trappers, which initiative do you think would have the greatest impact?
