On February 11, all four Co-Chairs of the bipartisan and bicameral Vermont Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus provided remarks to an energized crowd of sportsmen and women at the Vermont Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs (VTFSC) Legislative Mixer in Montpelier, VT. Co-Chairs Senator John Rodgers, Senator Alice Nitka, Representative Cynthia Browning, and Representative Patrick Brennan (who is also a member of the NASC Executive Council) were joined by upwards of 25 of their legislative colleagues, many of whom are Caucus members, at the event.
This annual event provides an opportunity for members of the VTFSC and other in-state and national conservation partners to interact with legislators and to discuss key policy issues before the legislature. This year there was a lot to talk about, as there are currently a slew of anti-gun bills being debated in the Capitol, along with numerous other anti-sportsmen’s bills. Along with the policy items that were discussed, a key focus of the event was the upcoming hearing for H. 610 which will be held on Tuesday, February 18, and is expected to draw hundreds of sportsmen and women from across the state to present a strong showing of opposition to the myriad of gun bills before the legislature. Other bills that will be heard on February 18 include H. 581 and H. 582, which ultimately seek to minimize the voice of sportsmen and women in the decision-making process of the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Board.

Studies conducted at both the state and federal level have found that the number of hunters and trappers have been on a generally declining trend over the past several decades. To increase recruitment, retention, and reactivation (R3) of hunters and trappers, which initiative do you think would have the greatest impact?
