North Carolina

The Tar Heel State is home to a diversity of habitats, marked in the west by the Appalachian Mountains with the highest peak east of the Mississippi River, the Piedmont in the central part of the state, and the Coastal Plain in Eastern North Carolina. Originally settled by the Cherokee and Croatan tribes and joining the Union in 1789, North Carolina has a rich history including the location of the first human flight and leading the way in the modern banking industry. Popular species to pursue in the Old North State include black bear, white-tail deer, wild turkey, dove, various species of waterfowl, ruffed grouse, and bobwhite quail. Iconic locations in North Carolina including the Blue Ridge Parkway, Grandfather Mountain, and the Linville Gorge.
